Batheaston

Let me take you on a little adventure. We were staying in Bath, and one afternoon my mom and I decided to take a trip over to a neighboring village called Batheaston to visit a church called St. Catherine's, which was (supposedly) a short walk.

If you look at this map, the Bath Tourist Office told us that the church was located right in the centre of "A", a short jaunt from the bus stop. However, this was the wrong "St. Catherine" church, and the one we wanted was, in fact, located where you find the "C" marker.

After searching in vain for the church where "A" was found, we ran into a woman who gave us directions to the correct location, saying it was a 'good walk' but 'well worth it'.

We did stop by in the city and see this lovely church, called St. John the Baptist, where we wandered around the outside.


It had some pretty wicked gargoyles!

After seeing that church, we decided it best to set off for this ellusive church. So we set off, and 3.46 kilometers later we eventually found this little church!

(There were some lovely views along the way).

Seeing as we only had vague directions from some woman, we never really knew whether we were going in the right direction or not, until we found this sign, which gave us hope! Although we still had a good 30 minute walk from here...
Anyways, onto St. Catherine Church. I don't remember much about the history of the church, and the website of the church is down and I can't find anything on Wikipedia, my backup, but I'm sure people will leave coments about ths church with its history.









Either way, enjoy the photos, and know that the walk back to Batheaston was much more pleasureable since we knew how long we'd have to walk.

As a side note, right beside the little church was located the Tudor House of St. Catherine's Court, and you can read more about it here. There was quite the building ruckus going on, and the homeowners had just returned with the shopping, so we didn't poke around their house - that would be rude.
Here's the full view of the church from the road. It was quite a fun little adventure and well worth the trek!
